Course overview
Applied Science is a practical course designed to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the science sector. This course will provide learners with the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the science sector including practical and investigative skills, and a grounding in biology, chemistry and physics.
What will I study?
Applied Science covers a wide range of topics across the three broad disciplines of science: biology, chemistry and physics. You will study the following mandatory units:
- Applications of Chemical Substances
- Applications of Physical Science
- Health Applications of Life Science
- Scientific Skills
The course draws from the scientific knowledge you learnt in the classroom to aid in developing a high level of practical laboratory skills that will stand you in good stead for further study.
Entry requirements
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English, Maths and Science.
- At least one GCSE needs to be at grade 4 or above.
Additional information
You will be expected to purchase a lab coat from the college for approximately £10.
What could I do next?
This course prepares you for our Level 3 Science courses in Biomedical Science or Forensic and Analytical Science. Learners then can progress to University or into the scientific workforce.
