On Monday 8 March, we began testing students at our Covid Test Centres. In total 24 students, 30 members of staff and 21 community volunteers have helped to ensure the process ran as smoothly as possible and our students felt confident and relaxed.
We spoke to some of the volunteers to hear about why they chose to get involved and what they have gained from the experience.
Applied Science student Ayden Ash said that his volunteering experience had been invaluable when applying to university.
To get on a paramedics course at university they are looking for you to have relevant clinical experience. Saying I had been a test centre volunteer really helped me in my interview for the University of Hertfordshire and I just found out that I have been accepted onto their Paramedic Science course.
It’s been really busy at the Seevic Campus test centre, but I’ve really enjoyed it and have a real sense of pride. Everyone has been working so hard and even though it has been hard I’ve enjoyed it and we’ve always kept ahead of schedule.
I wanted to volunteer because I wanted to do my part to help and I enjoy volunteering. I have found this experience really interesting seeing the process behind the mass testing. Volunteering not only looks really good on your CV but it’s also a great experience. You are able to make new friends and feel like part of a team.
The test centre was very quick and efficient. We are able to get through people at a good pace and most people are in and out in under 10 minutes.
I am studying Art, Media and English and I got involved with volunteering for a unique and busy experience, it will help me by acquiring new skills such as working in a fast-paced environment. I also like working as part of a team.
I think the testing is going well and everyone is working together in order to make it work, it’s really well organised and I have to thank everyone who is a part of it.
Many students, staff and parents have praised the efficiency of the process and the team.
Clare White, Deputy Principal would like to thank all of the students who have volunteered their time to help at the Covid Test Centre.
“I have been impressed by the exceptional teamwork from the students. They have demonstrated fantastic levels of maturity and professional conduct – which is amazing to see.”
From Monday 22 March our A-Level students moved to home testing and our Vocational students from Monday 29 March. We have seen majority of our students opt-in for the testing and thank everyone involved in helping to reduce the spread of the virus.
