Health & Social Care students and Childcare students at USP College, Seevic Campus, have secured a great future for themselves after the completion of their courses.
Health & Social Care
The Health & Social Care department offers students the opportunity to engage with the community as part of its College Company, Care Ready. The College Company sees students become employees and work on live assignment briefs, including devising and delivering creative and therapeutic activity sessions at Carer’s Choice Dementia Day Centre and within the Pathways area of the College.
The Level 3 BTEC Health & Social Care course at USP College has a 100% pass rate, with 70% of students progressing to Higher Education and 30% into employment.
Many students have gained places in the most competitive courses at universities including midwifery, child/adult nursing and speech and language therapy.
Abida Begum, 18 from Stanford-le-Hope, studied the Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care and achieved D*D*D*, securing her place at Anglia Ruskin University on an Adult Nursing Degree.
She says “The teachers are really passionate about their course, and there is a good support system; they push you to do the best you can.
“I chose to go into adult nursing because I like caring for people, and I like to see the different stages of life.”
Abbie Grice, 19 from Leigh-on-Sea, also studied the Level 3 BTEC in Health & Social Care, choosing this path as her niece is profoundly deaf.
She is going on to study Speech & Language Therapy at the University of East Anglia in Norwich after achieving D*D*D* in her course.
“I chose USP College because I like the way the course was set out and because it gets you ready for university by working independently.”
Early Years
The Early Years department works closely with external nurseries, such as Seymour House, enabling the development of real-life projects and scenarios, all facilitated by the College’s new learning classroom equipped with a variety of early years resources.
The Level 3 CACHE Diploma in Childcare & Education has a 100% pass rate, with 60% of students progressing to Higher Education and 40% into employment.
A number of externals also deliver workshops and presentations to the students on key topics such as constructing a CV and interview techniques.
Bella De Dominicis, 18 from Laindon and Kirsty Heslin, 18 from Benfleet, both studied the Level 3 CACHE Diploma in Childcare & Education and secured jobs at Seymour House.
Seymour House operates ten Day Nursery Schools across Essex and Hertfordshire, making them the County’s leading independent provider of funded nursery education.
Bella secured her job after completing her work experience with Seymour House.
She says “There were vacancies and I was told that I should apply, as they liked the way I worked. So I had an interview and got the job!
“I chose to study at USP College because of the 100% pass rate and my sister came here and passed.
I would definitely recommend it; the teachers are really hands-on and help you when you need it. They also make sure you are on target with regular review meetings.”
Kirsty, who would like to become a teacher or a play therapist, is working part-time while studying the Foundation Degree in Early Years at the College before topping up to the BA (Hons) in Education & Early Years.
She says “I secured my job after Seymour House came to the College to give a talk on how to set out a CV.
“I spoke to the lead when she was here and mentioned I was looking for a part-time job while I did my degree at the College. She told me there were some part-time vacancies, so I asked my teachers to look over my application, applied and got the job.”
Both departments have devised a bespoke career package for learners ensuring that they have opportunities to develop their skillset and ensure that they stand out from their competition when applying for university or employment.
The College offers courses from Level 1 to 3 in Health & Social Care and Level 1 to 6 in Childcare.
