Embracing Immersive Digital Learning

Preparing Students for a digital working life

USP College have embraced digital immersive technology by investing in a model to improve teaching delivery whilst developing an immersive, digitally driven approach to learning.

The first immersive room was installed in 2019 and created immersive teaching and learning spaces with a 5-screen, ultra-HD ‘V-Room’ classroom system. The system incorporates video conferencing and smart technologies, allowing the College to connect students between campuses and other partner colleges and businesses to support collaborative working without geographical barriers.

Dan Pearson Principal & CEO said: “I have created a strategy focussing on experimentation and the adoption of improved approaches and practices using digital innovations.

“Students will and have been benefiting from using the classrooms, they are able to have wider classroom debates, and learn new employability skills which they wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to practise, including presentation and communication skills and live video conferencing.”

Since the implementation in 2019 the College has further enhanced the immersive infrastructure by installing 25 live-streaming rooms across their campuses.

Even in a world before COVID-19 implementing these systems had many benefits, but the reality of COVID-19 has only accelerated the need to make these changes at pace. The students are able to remotely join live college-based lessons where they can see their fellow peers and teachers, share content and their own work, as well as engage in support from both their teacher and peers.
