European Parliament Ambassador School

USP College is set to become one of the first European Parliament Ambassador Schools in the UK

USP College is set to become one of the first European Parliament Ambassador Schools in the UK

The Essex based College is part of the UK’s European Parliament Ambassador’s Schools (EPAS) pilot scheme and will join a growing network of over 1,500 schools across the EU and the UK that are learning about the European Union’s values.

The scheme is open to all students at the College, not those just studying politics and it a great experience for anyone that joins.

The College has a career-focused approach to learning and enrichment activities like these help to give students new skills such as debating.

Reece Nelson, Teacher of History and Politics, and head of the College’s EPAS group said, “I want to get people more actively involved with politics. The practical approach will be helpful for students who do not engage with politics in a classroom and I am reaching out to students in different subject areas to join, helping to bring other knowledges and experience together.”

Reece hopes that as part of the programme students will be able to enjoy trips to other European countries to engage in debates with other EPAS groups and to visit important European Union locations.

Mia Coodye, 17, who studies A-Level History, Criminology and English Combined Literature & Language at USP College’s Seevic Campus, has signed up to be part of the College’s EPAS scheme. Mia said, “I am interested in learning about new cultures, especially those of some of closest neighbours. I’m excited about going to other countries with the programme and I look forward to the online debates.”

The College offers Politics as an A-Level subject, to find out more about all courses available at the College attend one of their open evenings on 16 November at their Seevic Campus or 30 November at their Palmer’s Campus.
