Two USP College students have been working on important national public relations projects during their Industry Placement, including the Cop26 Climate Change Strategy for Schools campaign.

The Level 3 BTEC Business students, Richard Hillgrove, 18 from Westcliff-on-Sea and Anthony Adeniyi, 17 from Basildon, have been carrying out their placement at 6 Hillgrove PR in Southend.

As part of the Cop26 Climate Change Strategy for Schools campaign, Richard and Anthony collated comments from school children from all over the UK on their views and opinions on climate change. They also responded to the children and created press releases for the clients.

Richard said, “I really enjoyed collating comments, writing press releases and networking with businesses such as Sky News and the BBC.

“The placement has built up my confidence and taught me how to talk to clients and communicate with my colleagues.”

Richard and Anthony have recently started managing their own project for ‘Football For Peace’, an organisation trying to get third world countries into the world of football, abolish racism in sport and make football more inclusive.

Anthony stated, “This project has helped me understand how PR can make people more aware of important issues.

“I really enjoy working on such a significant project that might make a difference.”

Business College Lead and Teacher of Business Jason Bowen said, “The students are thoroughly enjoying their placement at 6 Hillgrove PR.

“Industry placements like this allow students to learn new skills that will help them stand out and give them a competitive edge when they finish college.

“They have certainly shown a talent for marketing and PR.”
