The publication was part of a national creative writing competition named 'Twisted Tales' run by Young Writers, designed to challenge students to produce the very best that their imaginations can concoct and create.
Korina Turner, 17, from Rainham, who is currently studying A-Level English Literature & Language, History and Classical Civilisation at the College, was selected from 19,000 entries.
Entrants had to flip the narrative and write from the villain's point of view, producing a tale with a twist in under 100 words in length, often referred to as a mini-saga.
The mini-saga titled 'Crimson Curls' is based on the red queen from Alice in Wonderland as Korina had always been fascinated by her confident and threatening demeanour and wanted to explore her character in her younger years.
She says, "From an early age, I have been drawn to fantasy and fairy tales, and when I was given an opportunity to enter the competition, I thought it would be an exciting experience."
"I feel incredibly grateful that I was chosen to be published because it is comforting to know that people enjoy my writing."
Marcus Brown, Teacher of English at USP College, said, "As a department, we often encourage students to take part in competitions and submit their work for publication.
"We have so much talent here. Korina is a fine example of that. Well done Korina!"
The publication, Twisted Tales - Fiction from the UK, will incorporate Korina's story Crimson Curls and is available to buy in April 2022.
