MET Police Industry Day Insights with Mia Donovan

During Industry Skills Day, Mia Donovan, Course Lead for Uniformed Protective Services (UPS), had the opportunity to take part in a ride-along at Bethnal Green Police Station. The 2pm–10pm shift covered the Tower Hamlets and Hackney London boroughs. With a ride-along involving five blue light incidents as well as a tour of officer facilities and advanced technologies in custody management, the day was packed with learning experiences.

The evening culminated in further planning discussions with Chief Inspector Gould at Stoke Newington Station, reviewing the trial launch of our new 5-day work experience programme for students for May 2025. These discussions reflected the shared commitment to embedding high-impact, real-world experiences into our curriculum.

Leading on from the insightful Industry Day, Mia is proud to have created a partnership between our Uniformed Protective Services (UPS) course and the Metropolitan Police. This exciting new initiative brings together curriculum, professional mentoring and live public service experience to support the next generation of UPS professionals.

Mia wrote, "We are excited to officially launch a bespoke Work Experience Expo with the MET Police and a live investigative brief now embedded in the UPS curriculum", and called the collaboration "a proud moment for Uniformed Protective Services" at USP College.

Being career-focused is at the forefront of what we do, and these new work-based opportunities will further create a positive impact on our students' development of professional skills.
