Disability Confidence Level 3 Status Achieved
- Posted 08 Aug 2025

USP College are proud to be providing opportunity through Disability Confident Leadership.
The College has taken a major step forward in creating an inclusive, accessible environment by achieving Tier 3 Disability Confident Leader status - the highest level in the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme. This achievement powerfully showcases how the College provides opportunity for everyone in its community.
From the outset, USP College has been committed to ensuring that staff and students with disabilities and long-term health conditions can thrive. When the College joined the Disability Confident Scheme at Tier 1, it was clear this was just the beginning. Guided by the belief that inclusion should be part of its identity, the College set out not only to meet the standards but to lead by example across the education sector. The College went on to achieve Tier 2 status in May 2024 before focusing its efforts on achieving the highest status possible.
Working in partnership with Get Set for Work, the College undertook several important initiatives to embed inclusive practice into everyday operations:
- Delivered training to staff on neurodiversity, inclusive communication, and making reasonable adjustments.
- Reviewed and updated recruitment processes so that job descriptions, interviews, and onboarding are accessible and welcoming.
- Refreshed policies and procedures to reflect inclusive language and provide clear guidance for adjustments.
- Built internal awareness and engagement through workshops, discussion groups, and strong leadership support.
- Developed a robust action plan, informed by staff and stakeholders, aligning with Disability Confident Leader standards.
These actions have already made a measurable difference. Teams feel more confident discussing and delivering reasonable adjustments. New applicants experience more inclusive recruitment and onboarding. Current staff report feeling better supported to disclose conditions and ask for the help they need.
Lorraine Stoten, Director of HR added:
“It is a privilege to be recognised as a Disability Confident Leader. At USP College, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where every individual feels valued and supported. This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff and the meaningful work we've done to embed inclusive practices at every level of the organisation. We’re incredibly proud of the positive impact this has had—not just on our colleagues, but on the wider community we serve.”
The impact extends beyond our walls. USP College is now recognised across the education and employment landscape as a leader in inclusive practice. This reinforces our core belief: that when we build environments where everyone can succeed, we all benefit.
