Palmer’s Campus Students Visit Parliament for Law and Politics Insight

On Tuesday 4th November, A-Level Law and Politics students from our Palmer’s campus took part in an inspiring visit to the Houses of Parliament. The trip was organised by Shanie George, Deputy Academic Lead and Curriculum Manager for Academic Studies.

The day included a guided tour of Parliament and a visit to the public galleries, giving students a first-hand look at the workings of UK democracy. They also had the unique opportunity to meet local MP Rebecca Harris, where the students asked challenging questions on topics including the government’s Covid-19 response, austerity measures and the impact on society, and the Brexit deal.

It was so engaging to go to the Houses of Parliament. We actually got to see them debating new acts, which was really insightful.

Students then took part in an interactive law-making workshop in the Parliament Education Suite. They formed mock political parties and delivered presentations in a role-play hustings session, gaining valuable insight into how laws are made and debated. A hustings session is a public meeting where election candidate's debate policies.

The visit was a fantastic way to bring classroom learning to life. Law and Politics students from the Seevic campus will have the chance to take part in a similar visit on Wednesday 11th December.
