Course Overview

Digital Systems & Data is a Level 2 Foundation Certificate for students who are interested in technology, computers and data, and want to build their confidence before progressing to Level 3 study.

You’ll gain a broad introduction to digital systems, data and digital solutions. You’ll explore how technology is used in everyday life and in the workplace, while developing practical skills, problem-solving ability and a better understanding of the range of careers available in the digital sector.

This one-year programme is designed to give you a strong foundation for further study. Alongside the subject qualification, you’ll continue to develop your English and maths, where needed, and take part in activities that build your confidence, independence and employability skills.

What will I study?

You’ll study a broad range of introductory digital topics, including:

  • Digital systems and how they are used by people and organisations
  • How data is collected, stored, handled and used
  • Digital tools, devices and online services
  • Problem-solving and creating digital solutions
  • Online safety, security and responsible use of technology
  • The impact of digital technology on individuals, communities and workplaces
  • Communication, teamwork and project skills
  • Careers and progression routes in the digital sector

You’ll also develop your English and maths skills as part of your wider study programme, where required.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language and Maths.
