Storm Fitness and Leisure proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary with a fantastic Open Day on Saturday 3 October, marking three decades of supporting health, wellbeing and community connections across Grays.

Storm Fitness and Leisure, located next to USP College Palmer's Campus, was opened in October 1996, and 30 years later, are still serving the local community with state-of-the-art sport and leisure facilities, and a whole host of classes, clubs, and sports programmes aimed at people of all ages and abilities.

The special celebration welcomed students, customers, colleagues, former staff and local residents to come together and recognise the centre’s achievements. It was a chance to look back on the people, energy and shared commitment that have helped make Storm Fitness and Leisure such an important part of USP College and the local community.

Visitors enjoyed guided tours of the facilities, lively demonstrations and taster sessions throughout the day. Whether they were long-standing members or discovering the centre for the first time, guests were able to see the wide range of opportunities available at Storm Fitness and Leisure.

One of the highlights of the day was welcoming back former members of staff. Gathered in the centre's reception, past and present colleagues had the opportunity to reconnect, share stories and celebrate the part they have played in shaping the centre over the last 30 years.

One thing that has never changed is the importance of
the people who make this centre what it is. Thank you for your loyalty, support and for being part of our journey.

That is what makes this place so special. It's not just about the facilities or the activities we offer; it's about the people, the relationships and the memories created along the way.

Carol Sorrell, Storm Fitness and Leisure Centre Manager

The main celebrations ended with Carol Sorrell, Centre Manager, and Sara Kiteley, Duty Manager, unveiling a plaque marking the 30th Anniversary event.

For three decades, Storm Fitness and Leisure has encouraged people of all ages to get active, build confidence and improve their wellbeing. The anniversary Open Day was a fitting celebration of its proud history, its dedicated staff and the many people who have supported the centre since it opened.

As Storm Fitness and Leisure looks to the future, the event celebrated not only 30 successful years, but also the exciting opportunities still to come.
