Skills and Education Group Access Recognised CentreAn Access to Higher Education Diploma will enable you to go to university if you don’t currently have the qualifications you need. They are widely recognised by most universities, including local institutes such as Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Essex and the University of East London.

On this course, you can choose from a range of specialisms (which can be found below), as well as develop your study skills. You will also undertake a research project on a topic of your choice with the aim of developing your independent learning skills.

You can undertake this course at your own pace with self-guided hours. You will have access to a variety of learning materials to ensure you are able to pass this long-distance online course.

Dental Hygiene

As a Dental Hygienist, you will work with a range of people within the community, including both adults and children. You will promote good oral health and will practice a range of treatments and procedures such as scaling teeth, polishing teeth and applying topical fluoride and fissure sealants. You could find yourself working for the NHS, as a specialist dental hygienist or in a private practice.

Mental Health Nursing

Midwifery

The NHS is experiencing a shortage of Midwives and this course will give you the skills and knowledge needed to gain a degree and take your first steps into a Midwifery Career. From September 2020 all pre-registration midwifery students can receive funding support of between £5,000 and £8,000 per year, which you do not need to pay back. You are also still entitled to access funding for tuition and maintenance loans.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists work with a range of patients and physical difficulties, where you will be responsible for planning appropriate treatment programmes based on a diagnosis. These patients can include those with sports injuries, stroke patients and those who are suffering from injury or disability. The specialist areas of physiotherapy include cardiovascular, neurology, neuromusculoskeletal, paediatrics and respiratory.

Radiography

There are two routes within radiography, Diagnostic and Therapeutic. Diagnostic Radiographer diagnoses illnesses and injuries and a Therapeutic Radiographer treat and care for people with cancer. Within Diagnostic Radiography you can choose to specialise in certain areas, such as ultrasound or trauma and emergency care.

Entry requirements

  • You must be aged 19+ on 31st August of the academic year of study
  • You must have English Language GCSE grade C/4 or above or Level 2 Functional Skills English.
  • It is desirable that you also have GCSE/L2 Maths but if not, then a commitment to study it alongside your Access course is required as most universities require both English and Maths. We offer GCSE Maths as a face-to-face evening course or alternatively if you want to study online we recommend Academy Online as one of our partners.
  • Unfortunately, if you have neither Maths or English, we are unable to enrol you onto the Access course at this time. However, you could study GCSE English and Maths (potentially for free) at the College first, before going on to the Access course.

Additional costs

£3,180  (Eligible for Advanced Learner Loan)

  • You will need to purchase stationery, e.g. pens, paper, folders, plastic wallets
  • Although there is no single text that covers all units, purchasing any used version of a Level 3 anatomy and physiology textbook will be advantageous
