Develop the skills needed to turn data into meaningful business insight. Through Big Data & Visualisation and Database Design & Development, you will learn how organisations collect, manage, analyse and present data to support decision-making. Designed for adult learners and those looking to upskill, this Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) module combines academic study with practical application, helping you build knowledge that is directly relevant to today's digital workplace and future career progression. You will develop both technical and analytical skills that are highly valued across a wide range of industries.

What will I study?

This module combines two Pearson Higher National units that provide a strong foundation in data management and analysis.

Unit 5: Big Data & Visualisation
Explore how organisations use large datasets to identify trends, improve performance and make informed decisions. You will investigate industry-standard tools used to analyse and visualise data, examine statistical and graphical techniques, and learn how to transform complex datasets into meaningful visual presentations. The unit also considers ethical and legal considerations surrounding data collection, management and use.

Unit 10: Database Design & Development
Develop practical skills in designing, creating and testing relational database systems. You will learn how to model data, create relationships between tables, implement data validation and security measures, develop user interfaces, produce reports and dashboards, and test solutions against user requirements. You will also produce technical and user documentation for a completed database solution.
By the end of the module, you will understand how data is stored, managed and transformed into valuable information that supports organisational decision-making.
