If you are interested in a career in any engineering discipline, or plan to go on to university or a higher level apprenticeship, then this professional course would be an ideal choice. This practical course will see you develop both hands-on skills and academic knowledge of Engineering.

Teaching is a mixture of classroom based theory and practical work; you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. This course includes externally set exams which will assess your knowledge and application of advanced mathematics.

This course includes a substantial theoretical aspect focussed on the mathematical principles that is a prerequisite for a career in modern engineering.

What will I study?

With over 40 branches of engineering to discover, our dedicated staff ensure that you cover a wide range of areas to get the best experience on the course.

This practical course will see you develop hands-on skills and academic knowledge of Engineering. You will study subjects such as Mathematics, Health & Safety and Electronic Principles, alongside building practical skills in techniques such as machining, welding and fabrication processes.

There are seven mandatory units. Units 1, 3 and 6 are externally assessed by examination.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
  • Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language.
  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths

Additional information

You will be required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during practical lessons. You will be expected to supply your own overalls, safety glasses and boots for approximately £50.

What could I do next?
