My Creative Arts CPD Day

What did I get out of CPD Day?

Media Production Level 3 student Emily Holder speaks about the sessions that she attended on CPD Day in February 2021 and how it has helped her to work on her portfolio that she will use for applying for university.

During the latest CPD Day I learnt many things. I always look forward to this day from when the topics are released as there is always something for me to be interested in if it is artistic or media related. I am a part of the creative vocational courses and the lessons I listened in on were ‘How to build your portfolio’ and ‘Visual Art & the Music Industry with Graphic Designer & Drummer Chris Musto’.

I particularly enjoyed being taught how to build my perfect portfolio for potential university applications or job interviews as it teaches me about the real world and gives me the motivation to ‘go big or go home’, instead of slacking. It gave me a sense of potential career options and the idea of what I must do after I leave college. I am destined to go to university and study Media, more specifically Film and Special Effects, and this lesson has give me a push and the right help to aid me to apply to the best universities possible. I can promote myself through a portfolio in hand or online and impress the people that will give me those opportunities to succeed and achieve my dream.

“Success cannot just be handed to you; it has to be worked towards, and that is what I learned the most today.”

The Chris Musto inspirational talk allowed me to begin to think about life after college and if this is the career path I really want to go down. It was so inspiring as he mentioned that he started off small and grew until he couldn’t anymore. It illustrates to me the hard work that you have to put in to find your ideal outcome. Success cannot just be handed to you; it has to be worked towards, and that is what I learned the most today. If you begin at the bottom it doesn’t matter what others say, your career is your life and you can choose to grow or just stand still, and I want to be the best I can be and that is always possible.

CPD Day is always a good opportunity for those who were once in our place to generate our ideas for success and turn them into a reality that can be reached with some extra effort. It’s a day that young people must use well and not waste, as the life lessons in it are worth the time and can be the ideas which push the dreamers into success.

“The two sessions I attended didn’t feel like I was being taught, more so of being guided”

The two sessions I attended didn’t feel like I was being taught, more so of being guided which not everyone has the advantage of, which I am grateful for. It is for those who need that push and need that advice and I really enjoyed this information today. It was so intriguing and important as I learnt so much over a few hours. The fact that one person can inspire so many in a short amount of time is very impressive and I hope one day I can become successful enough, so I am in that place one day. One day I can reach to those who need that final push too.
