Two students from USP College, Benfleet, now play for well-known teams, Tottenham Hotspur F.C and Maccabi GB, with hopes to play professionally after College.

Emily Mackler, 18, from Southminster was invited into Maccabi GB for a trial, and ended up playing in goal for them during the Budapest European Championships, winning first place in the competition.

Emily said “USP College gave me the confidence to go for it, I was unsure about whether to go for the second trial, but my tutor encouraged me to go.

”I came to USP College for the football, and never thought it would get this big for me. Thanks to the tutors I can see a future in the sport”.

Emily, who is currently studying a Sport & Exercise Performance degree, has already been invited to go to the World Championships in Israel in 2021, and hopes to progress on to play for England Women’s football.

Casey Iron, 17, from Rochford trialled for Tottenham Hotspur F.C in August, hoping to win a place in their development team, and was surprised to find that she had been placed in the reserves for the first team already.

Casey, who is studying Sport & Exercise Science Level 3, said “I applied myself, and sport coaching at USP has massively helped me, since I have been here everyone has supported me with 1-1 sessions and skills and technique improvements”.

Currently playing the position of right back, Casey hopes to get into the first team at Tottenham Hotspur F.C, and alternatively would consider a scholarship in America.
